1.http://thecodeofconduct.com/category/press/
I don't know if this one counts, but I'm making it count. This is the sites press page where is basically gives the heads up on Code of Conduct's communal activism, recognition, TV/Press Hot Spots, and their own account of their success/work display. Features stories and press news such as Conan O'Brian's crew guy getting a R2D2 tattoo, mention of COC in CS Magazine, Fox News(news?) & Q101 spots, mention on Perez Hilton's blog (OMGGG), article about the shop's work done in OK! magazine, a video of David Arquette getting inked, and more updates. It also has the stores blog which I find just as useful as a field note sesh; reading about the store from the insider perspective.
2. Tattoos in America, Visual Culture-Minday Fenske
Looks at "tattooed bodies" in live performance (pop stars with pop art), advertising, and photography. May I mention this IS an ETHNOGRAPHY? It goes over the 'performance of performativity' that comes with getting tattoos. How does your tattoo, where you get it, how big it is, and how obstructive it is impact or implement your 'performativity'? Also talks about the disruption of restriction social forms...I'm interested.
3. Living Canvas, Karen L. Hudson
What goes into getting a tattoo, do we approach it like we do a new hair cut? This book covers planning on choosing on artist, to tattoo or not to tattoo, and how defining the tattoo process really is.
Focus on the thought behind getting a tattoo
4. Bodies of Inscription: A Cultural History of the Modern Tattoo Community- Margo Demello
University professor, Demello, presents an anthropological study of tattoos in North America, as well as the 'tattoo communities' that come hand in hand. She's got tattoos and married a tattoo artist, so she isn't just an interested observer. This journal goes into meaning behind tattoos among different cultural groups; bikers, baby boomers, Chicago gangs, Generation X, and more. A psycho-analyzation behind the diversity of ethnographic variety among tattoo enthusiasts
5. High Voltage Tattoo- Kat Von D
"A 'graphic' perspective on today's tattoo culture". Journal style; written by one of the most well known and talented tattoo artists working today, Kat Von D. Hear it from the Kat's mouth.
-But seriously, she has the experience and credential to vividly and accurately describe her perceptions on tattooing as both a consumer and a producer, and being heavily submersed in the culture as a well known advocate. No study journal can get as close to interpretation as Von D explains the world first hand.
